Run a second line of stitching next to the first. Again, this is for security - even though it's not necessary, it's a good idea.
You may have an excess "tail" of elastic, so trim that off.
Check the fit on your doll's head.
Now you're ready to use that gripper material. Here's a close up - it's fabric with rubber-like dots.
Take your measuring tape and put the end at the center of the elastic in front.
Your tape is going where your strip will - over the top of the doll's head, and down to the elastic in back. As you can see, on Akio's head, this is 5".

Now you're ready to cut the backing fabric. Whatever the measurement you got was from the bottom of the elastic in front to the bottom of the elastic in back, double that for the length you cut. 1 1/2" seems to be a good width on an SD13 head, but use your judgment.

Here is my cut strip. Mine is 10" by 1 1/2". You don't have to cut it totally straight, so don't worry about it.

Take your strip and fold it in half, so that the bumpy side is facing outwards. You want the gripper fabric to be on the top and underside of your finished "headthong" so that it will grip the wig AND your doll's head.

Line up the cut ends with the bottom of the elastic. You're making a little sandwich, with gripper fabric as bread and the elastic as the lunchmeat.

Slip your "sandwich" under the presser foot. You still want to use a zigzag stitch. Before you stitch, it helps to put the needle down into your fabric. Ironically, the gripper fabric likes to slide out from under the presser food.I backtack over the whole length of my stitching for security.
It doesn't really show but this is what your stitching is going to look like >_o Except yours will probably be straighter than mine ><
